Dina Al-Mahdy

Chair of Creative Women in Egypt

Dina Al-Mahdy works as Head of Projects Coordination Unit, Bibliotheca Alexandrina (Library of Alexandria). She is Chief Operating Officer at Women of Egypt Network. She is also a certified corporate board director at International Finance Corporation.

Dina is a freelance writer at numerous local and international magazines and newspapers: Al-Ahram WeeklyMedium MagazineElephant Journal, and Women of Egypt Magvario. She is also a freelance translation consultant at UNESCO Egypt and a freelance translator at various publishing houses inside and outside Egypt: Egypt’s National Center for Translation, Dar Dawen Publishers, Bloomsbury Publishing, and Austin Macauley Publishers.

Due to her extensive experience in translation rights and practices, she works as a freelance project manager at Dawen Publishers, to supervise the Arabic translation project.

Dina was also the contest coordinator and the honorary judge in 2018 Women of Egypt First Writing Contest for Children and in 2020 Women of Egypt Jewelry Designers Competition to heighten awareness for eliminating violence against women and girls in the world. Dina received her BA of Language and Translation from the Faculty of Arts, English Department, Alexandria University. She studied a Diploma of Higher Education in Translation Studies, University of Cambridge, UK.

In 2021, she received WAW HONORARY AWARD 2021 in appreciation to her endless positive contribution in the society. She will be officially inducted into the WAW Hall Of Fame at the 1st Annual Women Appreciating Women (WAW) prestigious virtual awards in Egypt.

In 2020, Dina is the award-winner The Women Leadership & Excellence Award (in the field of Media) at “The Arab Women In Leadership and Business Summit 2020”, in recognition of her volunteer work at Women of Egypt Initiative.

In 2019, she won the First Prize on Elephant Journal magazine writing contest many times.

Dina shares her articles on her WordPress blog titled A Journey into My World which helps her engage with her fellow translators and writers in topics about translation, writing, literature and positive psychology in both English and Arabic. In 2018, her blog was nominated for The 2018 Liebster Award. Also, the blog post Be Your Own Muse has been selected as one of the best fiction and writing blogs from around Internet, by the American Author M.C. Tuggle (Compiled for Ambrose Bierce Creative Writing Project).
