Honorary Ambassador

Demetra is one of the most beloved and celebrated musical ambassadors of Oklahoma and the US. Demetra George, soprano, captivates audiences with her sumptuous voice, consummate artistry, and compelling stage presence. She continues to grace opera stages, concert halls, and US Embassies across the US and Europe. In 2015, the US State Department named Demetra a Cultural Ambassador for sharing her vocal talents with the world community and spreading American culture along the way.

She has appeared on NBC, CBS, PBS & The Hallmark channel in concerts, operas, national radio, and has performed for four US Presidents and numerous world dignitaries. She is a two-time Grammy List Nominee for her first album DEMETRA GEORGE SINGS LOVE ARIAS. She was the Miss Teenage America Talent Winner, Miss Oklahoma to the Miss America Pageant, a talent and swimsuit winner, Western Regional San Francisco Opera winner, finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions, Zachary and Fuchs International Voice competitions, and in 2008 was the first American to guest perform with the 100 piece Azerbaijan Philharmonic in Baku to standing ovations.

To date, Ms. George has performed with over 750 orchestras and boasts a repertoire of more than 20 opera and operetta roles, and 18 in musical theater. Some of her forte roles are Maria in “West Side Story”, Fanny in “Funny Girl”, Tuptim in “King and I” and Eliza in “My Fair Lady”. Her opera roles include Violetta in “La Traviata”, Mimi/Musetta in “La Boheme”, Hannah in “The Merry Widow”, Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor”, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia” and Rosalinda in “Die Fledermaus” to name a few. She has also appeared in the Beethoven Ninth Symphony, Handel’s Messiah, and the Andrew Lloyd Webber Requiem.

From her voice studio have come 16 lead roles for her young students in Broadway productions-ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, FALSETTOS, GREASE, THE KING AND I, LES MISERABLES, LION KING, INTO THE WOODS, SOUND OF MUSIC, WICKED and WONDERFUL TOWN.

Ms. George has appeared at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in concert. She was resident soprano for Palm Beach Opera and the Boca Pops in Florida. She has served as the resident soprano for Nevada Opera Theatre Association in Las Vegas for 14 years singing major roles and concerts.

She has been a frequent guest on stages in Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, Mexico, and for Azerbaijan with symphonies and in concerts. Demetra presented an Andrew Lloyd WebberConcert in Istanbul which raised 5 million dollars for the Restoration of the entrance to Topkapi, the world’s largest palace. In September she solos at Bellapais Abbey with a BEYOND concert offering, opera, Broadway, film and ethnic selections.
