Saskia Harkema is a multi-facetted personality, with a background in Sociology and Business Administration. She has experience in the private and non-profit sector. Her career started by working for Philips for 7 years, after which she decided to do a PhD research and switch to academia. She is an expert in innovation, entrepreneurship and change management. She has worked as a Professor for a variety of universities, NGO’s and organizations in The Netherlands and Europe. Saskia combines academic interest with a practical approach to make things happen. She has developed several large-scale international projects which were financed by the EU. At present she works as an independent coach, trainer, researcher and lecturer for profit and non-profit organizations. She holds several positions: she is global ambassador for Female Wave of Change (www.femalewaveofchange.com) , Senior Expert for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she is co-founder of Move in2 the Future (www.movein2thefuture.com) and SHAER, an organization that seeks to bridge the gap between Africa and Europe and strengthen the relationship. Next to her work as an academic and trainer, she is also a human rights defender. She set up a Foundation Faces of Change (www.facesofchange.online) for that purpose. Faces of Change targets refugees and marginalized people, to support them to become active and valued members of society. She has numerous publications on her name and is often asked as a speaker for international conferences and events. Her work spans the globe and cuts across sectors and disciplines. She has a truly multidisciplinary approach to problems and is dedicated to contribute to peace and a better world through her work. Her passion is to write. In 2018 she wrote her first non-fiction book about Syrian freedom fighters, with whom she worked. Her second book was recently launched and is a novel inspired on her life.
