Country: Venezuela I Spain
Renata Fernandez (b. 1971, Venezuela) is a multidisciplinary artist based in London since 2003. Her practice explores themes of immigration, identity, territory, and displacement, shaped by her experience as a Global South immigrant. Using appropriated social media imagery and personal references, Fernandez reconstructs fragmented memories and inhabited landscapes through emotionally charged, self- referential narratives. Rooted in journalism, social sciences, and theatre set design, her hand-intensive process emphasises materiality and experimentation. She studied Fine Art, painting, and sculpture at the Armando Reverón University Institute (UNEARTE), alongside Social Sciences, Media, and Drama-Set Design at Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Caracas. Fernandez collaborates internationally with galleries and curators, with works held in public and private collections across the UK, Europe, the USA, Canada, Taiwan, and Venezuela.
