Marina Ahmad

Chair of the London Assembly's Economy, Culture and Skills Committee

Marina Ahmad is a dedicated public servant and experienced leader with a career spanning the public sector, voluntary organisations, and the NHS. A trained barrister who previously worked for the Crown Prosecution Service, she brings a strong legal and policy background to her work in government. Elected to the London Assembly in 2021, she has played a key role in shaping policy across the capital, serving in senior positions including Deputy Chair of the Economy Committee and member of both the Health and Police and Crime Committees. She currently serves as Chair of the Economy, Culture and Skills Committee, driving forward critical conversations around inclusive growth and opportunity in London.


A passionate advocate for social justice, Marina has led impactful campaigns addressing inequality and child poverty. Her report Growing Hungry: The Call for a Childhood Hunger Commission for London contributed to the introduction of free school meals across the city, a policy adopted and extended by the Mayor of London. She is also the founder of the anti-racism think tank Race on the Agenda, reflecting her long-standing commitment to equality, inclusion, and systemic change. Through her work, Marina continues to champion policies that create a fairer and more equitable society.
