For over two decades, Alexandra has stood at the forefront of heritage diplomacy, policy, and cultural stewardship representing England’s heritage sector on both national and international stages. She played a pivotal role in establishing the European Heritage Heads Forum, uniting state heritage authorities across Europe in pursuit of excellence, preservation, and collaboration.
At Historic England, Alexandra provides strategic guidance on international heritage-related policies and legal instruments. Her expertise includes advising the UK government on the implementation of landmark international conventions, including UNESCO’s 1954 Hague Convention and the 1972 World Heritage Convention.
Her leadership extends far beyond the UK, with close collaborations alongside UNESCO, ICOMOS, and ICCROM, as well as governmental and cultural partners worldwide.
Her work has led to the development of vital new structures and guidance frameworks to ensure the effective preservation and celebration of World Heritage within the UK and beyond.
A trained cultural historian, Alexandra’s academic background spans archaeology, art history, the conservation of historic buildings, and garden history. She is also a Council Member of ICCROM and a proud member of Chatham House, where she continues to champion heritage as a critical bridge between past, present, and future.
